Ingredients

  • 1 (8 oz) tube Refrigerated Crescent Roll Dough Like Pillsbury
  • 8 Hot Dogs Standard size
  • Mustard or Ketchup For making the eyes
Optional:
  • 4 slices American Cheese Cut into thin strips, for cheesy version
  • 16 Edible Candy Eyes Alternative for eyes

Equipment

  • 1 Baking Sheet
  • 1 Parchment Paper Optional, for easy cleanup
  • 1 Pizza Cutter or Knife For cutting dough strips
  • 1 Toothpick For making eyes (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Unroll the crescent dough and separate into triangles. Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut each triangle lengthwise into thin strips (about 4-5 strips per triangle).
Hands using a pizza cutter to slice unrolled crescent roll dough into thin strips on a floured white counter, with a parchment-lined baking sheet in the background.
  2. Wrap the Mummies: Take one hot dog. If using cheese, wrap a thin strip of cheese around it first. Then, take 2-3 dough strips and wrap them around the hot dog, stretching slightly, leaving a small gap near one end for the face. Crisscross the strips randomly like bandages. Place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining hot dogs.

  3. Bake: Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed up.

  4. Add Eyes: Let the mummy dogs cool for a minute or two. Dip the end of a toothpick into mustard or ketchup and dot two small eyes onto the face area. Alternatively, stick on edible candy eyes using a tiny dab of mustard/ketchup as 'glue'.

  5. Serve: Serve warm with ketchup and mustard for dipping.

Notes

  • Kid-Friendly Fun: Let kids help wrap the hot dogs – they love it!
  • Don't Wrap Too Tightly: The dough needs space to puff up during baking.
  • Mini Mummies: Use cocktail sausages and smaller dough strips for bite-sized appetizers (adjust baking time).
  • Air Fryer: Cook at 350°F (175°C) for 6-8 minutes in the air fryer.
  • Make Ahead: You can wrap the mummies and store them covered in the fridge for a few hours before baking. Bake just before serving for best results.
